Remaking Hollywood films is the latest trend now in the Bollywood film industry. The recent settlement amount paid by BR Film makers to 20th Century Fox of Hollywood will surely force the budding directors to reconsider their desire.
In 1992, My Cousin Vinny was given by Fox film makers, which was a great comedy hit. It is being said that BR films had approached Fox for further proceedings but there were no agreements signed when BR rejected the allegations. Only a permission to use the idea behind the Hollywood film was given but not any rights for a Hindi remake, Fox said. An out-of-court settlement of $200,000 was finally made which ended up the case.
There are many existing cases against some Bollywood film makers on the same ground, also some threatening against films like Harry Puttar and a remake of Curious Case of Benjamin Button are already well known.
