Swine flu vaccination

If one wonders whether there will be a cure for the swine well the answer is yes, thanks to the scientists at Center for disease Control and prevention. They have already begun the process of producing the seed stock of virus required to produce the vaccine. The seed stock is produced by injecting virus into a hen’s egg and then incubating it to increase the virus. These viruses are then used up to create the vaccine in a large scale which could take up a minimum of six months. The trick in producing the vaccine is to split up and extract the surface proteins of the virus and react with another base virus to produce the final extract. Unlike last time when there was a side effect of using the vaccine the scientists have made sure that the new vaccines are totally safe to use. But the main question is will be available on time to save lives if a pandemic is declared. The decision to make is whether the virus will pose a threat enough to demand vaccine production. The problem of stalling the production of regular vaccinations for winter flu should also be taken into account. The hope of all is that these decisions won’t be required.

Impact of Satyam fraud on IT services

It was a act of real shame to the Indian IT industry when the chairman of Satyam IT services admitted that he had made up false accounts to lure his company’s business. Satyam computers had transformed itself from a small company to one serving the fortune 500 companies of the world. The inflation of assets of the company was to attract customers and investors to investing in the so called software giant. It has to been as of what would be the impact of this on entire It industry. The start of this century has revolutionized the Indian Software Industry into an booming one with the leading roles occupied by such as the Tata consultancy. There have also been talks that investors will not be interested in investing in Indian firms anymore leading to a discussion whether US companies like Accenture and IBM can break into the top market. It is also to be seen whether the Indian government provides any support to the investors of Satyam asking them to wait till the situation stabilizes tomake a decision of quitting Satyam to better corporate or to stick with it. All those concerned with the company do think it as a short term glimpse.

Story of LTTE

Right from its formation to its fall LTTE had transformed from a liberist group into a terrorist outfit with fascist ideas. It all started as a group by young boys calling itself as Tamil New Tigers headed by Prabhakaran in 1972 the goal of which was to create a separate state for the Srilankan Tamils. It later transformed itself into a large outfit called liberation Tigers of Tamil Ealam with some fascist ideas They took to arms and wanted the government to concede to their ideology and terms which eventually led to their downfall. Prabhakaran felt that the war which raged the Srilankan lands for more than three decades ended with the elimination of all the liberist forces just recently. The reason for the struggle by the LTTE may have been genuine but the way in which they carried out the struggle may not have been quite legitimate. Prabhakaran might well have persisted with the Gandhian principle which may have not resulted in the death of thousands of people and rendered plenty more homeless. The next primary reform that the Srilankan government must provide the Tamils is to do with equal right policy and help build up the northern part.

Jim Laker

Jim Laker was the first bowler in cricketing history to take all ten wickets in an innings. He achieved his feat in the forth ashes test of 1956. He also took nine wickets in the first Australian innings making him the highest wicket taker in a test match with a tally of nine wickets. The spinning ball from his hand was said to have a buzz. The most ironical thing about his feat was him being asked by his wife about what special he had done on that day as she didn’t have a good cricketing knowledge. He started off primarily as a batsman but his career was stalled due to the World War 2. He returned to cricket after the war as a spin bowler only to become legendary. Surrey was his home side in the county circuit for thirteen years and at the end of his first class career he had taken 1395 wickets at an astonishing average of 17.17 runs in 309 matches. He was also a television commentator and his unique habit of leaving out ‘g’ in pronouncing words ending with ‘ing’ made him famous. He also authored a book called ‘over to me’ which made the officials of Lords angry and they removed his honorary membership of MCC It was eventually restored in some years.

Keratoconus

Keratoconus is one of the corneal diseases which may lead blindness in extreme cases. It is one of those diseases which is difficult to diagnose but till difficult to treat. Many people in India do not even know that they have this problem due to wrong diagnosis to normal sight problems. Lack of awareness about it seems to work in favor of development of disease. In patients having keratoconus the cornea develops into conical one from being a spherical one. As a consequence the patient loses his vision which might extend to near blindness. Although the disease progresses in stages it is difficult to control. Rigid glass permeable contact lenses are used to control the development but a corneal transplant in required advanced stages. In the advanced stages the cornea ruptures and aqueous humor from the eye fills the portion forming a white layer. The transplant success rates in keratoconus patients range from 90-95% which is good compared to other patients who require transplants. One of newest technologies to be used for treatment is called as piggy back lenses which has the central hard part and a soft outer part providing the same comfort as of soft lenses which a very good vision.

Why pre election coalition

It is not very uncommon to see pre election coalitions formed right at the helm of the Indian elections. There are also some cases of horse trading which happens now and then. These things seem to make the headlines more often right before and after the election. What do these pre elections really mean- is it the non confidence of a party to sustain a majority on its own or is a tactical advantage. Why cant parties go into a election standing on their own in all the areas and then look for a post election. This makes the concept of simple majority an infeasible one. What is the case when two parties form a coalition such that each of the parties does not have majorities in some part of the country? This would only mean that most part of the people wouldn’t like one of the parties in agreement. All parties should try to stand alone in the elections and then try to form coalitions after the elections if they cannot win independently.
