It’s time to prepare for a storm

The summer is the time when the NOAA gives its predictions for the upcoming hurricane season. NOAA predicts a normal hurricane season in 2009 with 50% chances of normal season and rest split equally between above averaged and below averaged season. This season is predicted to have lesser number of storms than last season. There is very good chances of having 14 named storms this year with two to three becoming major hurricanes falling in the categories of 3,4and 5. Although the hurricane season starts only in august it might not be a bad thing to prepare a disaster plan in place for the catastrophe in advance as per the famous say ‘Better be early than late’. Even a very good period can become a bad one if there is big landslide The ongoing period is a active period for hurricane activity in Atlantic ocean. This should continue for one more decade after which it should be quieter era for hurricane activity.

Obama’s tax plans on offshore business

In an effort to build up American tax treasury and to protect indigenous jobs President Obama has put forth his plans for tax reforms on US companies investing in off shore operations. What Obama means by these plans is pretty straightforward - the home companies would get more tax benefits if they create jobs and operations in US rather than in abroad. The current tax system means that a business doing offshore operations can avoid federal taxes while an indigenously operating one would bear them in full. Any plan that is being put forth by the government has its share of support and opposition .While several economists agree that it will create jobs in the US and increase tax collections some also feel that it would make the businesses become competitive globally. While the aim of this tax plan is to stop companies from taking advantage of loopholes in the tax system it has to seen whether the plan has a solution address the issue of global competitiveness that several firms aim for. The most important thing is that the plan has to be approved when it is being put forth before the congress.
